In the early years of World War II Germany waged war in a way not seen before – the Blitzkrieg (‘lightning war’). Combining speed and manoeuvrability with concentrated localised strength Adolf Hitler’s military quickly overpowered much of Europe and drove deep into the heartland of the Soviet Union.

The humble German landser was ably supported in the field by the excellent MG34 medium machine gun and Granatwerfer 34 8cm medium mortar.
